What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter.
What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed? RSS Feed Readers and News Aggregators
To start reading RSS feeds, you'll need a News Reader first. There are many different types, some are web browser based, and some are stand-alone applications. You can see a list of some popular RSS readers below.
Most browsers will alert you to the presence of a news feed, so check your documentation.
After you have chosen a News Reader, you will need to add the content that you want to it. You can identify sites with RSS feeds typically by a small orange or blue square (depending on the browser you use). This normally appears in the address bar (with the address of the page you are on) or near the top of the browser window.
You can add the feed by cutting and pasting in the URL address, or by clicking on the RSS symbol.
